About Podiatry and Chiropody

In the UK the terms Podiatrist and Chiropodist mean the same. 'Podiatrist/Chiropodist' are protected titles in the UK, meaning that they can only be used by those registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC). Inside the profession, Chiropody is used to suggest the routine processes of foot care, whilst Podiatry is indicative of the higher skills and academic levels.

At the Stress Exchange we offer a full range of podiatry for men and women from a routine check-up to nail surgery.

Biomechanics assessment (45mins)

  £85

This is also known as Gait Analysis which aims to realign foot posture to maximise lower limb function and control. It is most beneficial for those who enjoy running/sporting activities or who may be experiencing pain in the joints of the lower limbs.
Below is a list of some biomechanical problems:

  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Ankle Instability
  • Ankle Sprains
  • Arthritic Foot & Ankle
  • Bunions
  • Diabetic Foot
  • Flat Feet
  • Heel Spurs
  • Ingrown Toenails
  • Sports Injuries
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Neuromas
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Hammertoes

Your Podiatrist will take a detailed history and examine your feet and legs before watching you walk, taking measurements of the joints in your hips, knees, ankles and feet.

This information will be used to write your prescription for orthotics (see below).

Orthotics

from £185

Orthotics, also known as insoles or shoe inserts are specially designed devices that fit inside the shoe to alleviate problems such as flattened arches. Orthotics are custom-made from your prescription specifically for your feet, while insoles are “off the shelf”.

Our Orthotics are hand crafted from the highest quality materials. That’s why they come with a lifetime guarantee. Ask your Podiatrist for more information.

Complete foot health screening & Consultation (15mins no treatment)

  £25

Just like your visit to the dentist, one should visit the Podiatrist every 6 months to ensure there is nothing harmful to your foot health going on.

A complete foot health screening is just that. It’s complete peace of mind. The consultation and screening includes:

  • Assessment of the skin and nails to ensure there are no pathologies
  • Blood pressure testing
  • Vascular assessment – to check the blood supply to the feet is healthy
  • Ultrasound Doppler is used to listen to you foot and leg pulses
  • Neurological assessment – to check nerves are functioning properly. This test can pick up underlying conditions such as Diabetes.
  • Answering any questions you may have.

Nail surgery (1hr)

  £290

Ingrown toenails affect up to 10% of the population. Your Podiatrist will try to alleviate the problem with conservative treatment at first and surgery will only be considered when this option has been exhausted. The procedure itself is quite simple and takes just 20 minutes to perform. It is a relatively pain-free procedure and is performed under local anaesthetic.

Healing times vary depending on the patient, typically around 6 weeks.

You can be back on your feet and walking just an hour after the procedure!

Redressing appointments (15mins)

  £38

These are essential after nail surgery and are required once a week for 4-6 weeks depending on healing times. For most healthy individuals just a few are required and then the toe may be dressed at home by the patient.

In the UK The terms Podiatrist and Chiropodist are interchangeable. 'Podiatrist/Chiropodist' are reserved titles in the UK, meaning that they can only be used by those registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC formerly State Registered). Inside the profession, chiropody is used to suggest the routine processes of foot care, whilst Podiatry is indicative of the higher skills and academic levels.
