If you’re in the market for a refresh this autumn then The Stress Exchange stylist Mattia shares this season’s must-have hair trends straight from the catwalks…
1. Master the perfect low pony
A favourite across many of the designer collections for this autumn/winter and we can see why.
A polished pony is versatile, sophisticated and an easy work style that can carry you through to the evening. Just add this season’s must-have accessory – decorative multiple hair slides.

For this sleek, chic pony sitting elegantly at the nape of the neck Mattia used Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Style Prep and Confixor Liquid Gel which he worked through the entire head.
He then smoothed the hair back to create a low ponytail and finished with Light Elements Smoothing Fluid, a styling serum that weightlessly tames frizz and adds shine.
“For a softer, more romantic look, pull soft wisps of hair around the face to give a slightly dishevelled, more casual style,” suggests Mattia “Perfect for those times when your hair simply won’t stay in place or the weather is doing its worst.”
2. Hair colour trends this autumn
If you’ve ever considered a bold colour change but not quite had the nerve, now is time. Bold, look-at-me, intense reds and blues were the stand-out hair colour on the autumn/winter catwalks.
Pastel hair shades continue to be everywhere from the boldest bubblegum pink and canary yellow to soft pistachio shades, peach and lavender. “For longer lasting colour and to help condition use a specially formulated colour product such as Aveda’s Color Conserve shampoo and conditioner,” advises Mattia.
For Stress Exchange guests who prefer a more natural look you’ll be pleased to know that the Balayage is going nowhere – it’s here to stay. For a natural sun-kissed look Mattia recommends cool ash or beige tones as they are really easy to maintain.
3. Sleek top knots and messy buns
The models at Ralph & Russo’s couture collection sported tightly swept back hair into flawlessly-finished top knots, while flyaway top knots with a smooth crown were spotted at Chanel.
But it’s Meghan’s signature messy bun that’s garnered the most column inches in the fashion press; it’s the most famous look of the year, utterly flattering and easy to achieve.

“Not too messy, not too tidy”, explains Mattia. “An effortless look for lazy weekends, days on the beach and those times when you just want to look like you haven’t tried too hard.
“After spraying Aveda Texture Tonic throughout the hair, rough dry with a paddle brush. Then sweep the hair up into a high ponytail and twist it around itself to create a messy top knot.
“Finish with Aveda’s Air Control hairspray to keep it in place for a casual, everyday styling look and effortless beauty.”
4. Swinging Sixties hair
From Jackie O’s signature bouffant bob to voluminous glamorous beehives, Swinging Sixties hair was BIG on the runways.

“I love this look with its hat tip to Swinging London,” says Mattia.
“Using Aveda’s Pure Abundance Style Prep and Thickening Tonic, work the product through the root and mid-length area, then tease it and backcomb for a modern take on the 60s beehive hair style classic. Add some sixties-inspired lashes to complete the look.”
