“When a woman is talking to you, listen to what she says with her eyes” wrote Victor Hugo, one of France’s greatest writers.
Let your eyes do the talking this Christmas with insider tips and tricks from our beauty therapist Kim.
Choose products specifically for eyes
“I’m often surprised by how many of our salon guests believe it is fine to use their regular facial moisturiser around their eyes,” comments Kim.
“The skin around our eyes is very thin, fragile and sensitive. I always recommend choosing skincare products especially formulated for the eye area, such as Aveda Energising Eye Cream, as they are gentle and less likely to irritate.”
She continues, “Be especially careful of facial anti-ageing creams containing retinol as these can be cause inflammation and redness.”
Protect eyes from sun damage and ageing
The same goes for your sun protection. This fragile area needs protecting with at least SPF factor 30. Choose a sunscreen specifically for the eye area and wear it every day of the year. No matter how dull the winter sun is it can still damage and age your skin causing fine lines to start appearing in your early twenties.
Suffering from sun damage and wrinkles around the eyes?
“I find the CACI Eye Revive treatment delivers dramatic results without the need for surgical intervention,” says Kim.
“It’s a non-invasive, painless, anti-ageing eye treatment. Serum-filled micro-current rollers combine with a deeply nourishing mask to lift hooded eye lids, reduce puffiness and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”
For best results book a course of treatments. And currently if you book a course of 10 we’ll give you 2 extra free treatments.
Big, bold, beautiful eyes
For flirty, smoking-hot eyes add flutter, length and volume with professional eyelash extensions.
Lashes are made thicker and longer by the application of individual synthetic lashes directly onto the natural eyelash. They instantly make your eyes look larger and more awake.
“Our Lash Perfect system offers a wide choice of lengths and thicknesses,” explains Kim. “So whether you prefer a natural, subtle look or want to ramp up the glamour for a special occasion we can achieve the perfect look for you.”
Follow Kim’s professional tips to keep your extensions looking fabulous for longer:
- Tempting as it is, don’t fiddle and play with your lashes.
- Avoid oily products around the eyes as oil breaks down the lash bond so extensions fall off more quickly.
- Brush them daily.
- Clean with a lash cleanser recommended by your therapist.
And one last tip from Kim: “I always avoid rubbing around my eye – when applying skincare products or removing makeup I pat rather than rub.”
Perfect party peepers
1. Primer for eyes
Always use primer on your eyelids before applying your makeup to ensure your eye shadow stays in place all day long and doesn’t crease.
2. Suffer from circles under the eyes?
- Balance green hued circles out with reddish or peach toned concealer.
- For blue circles use yellowish or purple concealer.
- Red or pink circles are disguised best with green undertones.
3. Festive favourites
‘Tis the season for metallics and glittery shadows. Be bold with a coppery or gold shimmer; now add some drama with lush lashes and black eyeliner.
For an uber-romantic look pair feathery lash extensions with delicate rose-flushed cheeks and pop-of-pink lips.
4. Puffy eyes
Puffy eyes a problem? Make sure you drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
For a quick DIY remedy for puffiness pop a teaspoon in the fridge, once chilled, use the rounded side to gently massage under the eye working from the inner to outer corner. This stimulates circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage and helps breakdown excess fluids that can rest under the eyes. Or you could use a cool jade roller for the same soothing and stimulating effect.
5. Clear, bright and healthy
Always carry eye drops in your handbag as there’s nothing more gorgeous than sparkling clear eyes.
6. Don’t compete
Love bold lips? Then stay with neutral natural tones for your eyes to accentuate your lip colour.
7. Gentle makeup removal
Be gentle when removing your makeup and avoid tugging. Pop a pad soaked in alcohol-free remover over closed eyes for 20-30 seconds before carefully wiping down the eyelid.
Well-shaped brows are your eyes’ best accessory. Eyebrows frame your eyes and give structure to your face.
If you’ve sparse brows from years of over plucking, but secretly yearn for Meghan Markle’s enviable arches, book in for an eyebrow tint and a professional shape. You’ll leave with perfectly shaped, bolder, more defined brows.
